SEA LIFE Sydney undertook a refurbishment of Oceanarium 4 (OC4), home to the popular Great Barrier Reef exhibit. The project required the tank to be fully drained for an extensive overhaul, which involved relocating 3,000 animals, carefully bracing the structure during the slow drainage process, and removing all substrate and theming. The refurbished Oceanarium 4 reopened in December 2024.

During the refurbishment of Oceanarium 4, SEA LIFE upgraded the Life Support System LSS) by installing new protein skimmers and ozone fractionators. These enhancements ensure the exhibit provides an optimal environment for both the animals and the guests.
